The first peace walk or Dhamma Yietra was organised by 'The Ghandi of Cambodia', the Venerable Maha Ghosananda (left). He was nominated for the Nobel peace prize a number of times for his tireless efforts to bring peace to his homeland.
In1996, photographer Olivier Pin-Fat and I decided to photograph the walk. The organisers said the walk received little or no coverage by the media. The first night we bedded down with the walkers at a temple in Maha Ghosananda's home province of Takeo. That night all our camera gear was stolen. These were the only pics I have of that first and only day. It was a moving story which didn't get the attention it deserved.
Maha Ghosananda died in 2007 but the walks continue.
